Vilia Putrius was born in Lithuania and received her ballet training at M.K. Curlionis Arts School. Following her graduation in 1995, she joined the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre where she was a soloist for five seasons. Whilst in the company she toured in The Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, France, Egypt, Japan and The United States.

In 2001, Vilia joined Ballet Arlington in Texas, as a principal dancer, performing there for three years before joining Boston Ballet in 2004. She then joined Festival Ballet Providence in 2006 and danced as a principal dancer for 11 seasons. In 2018 she was appointed the School Director of Festival Ballet Providence.

Performed roles include; Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Odette/ Odile in Swan Lake, Giselle in Giselle,Terpsichore in Apollo, Cinderella in Cinderella, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, along with principal roles in Allegro Brillante, Donizetti Variations, Paquita, Les Sylphides and many contemporary ballets. 

Ms. Putrius has worked with choreographers, Lorka Miasin, Paul Mejia, Jorma Elo, Lucinda Childs, Krzysztof Pastor and Viktor Plotnikov.

Vilia began teaching ballet and character dance classes in 2002, working at countless ballet schools and summer dance programs as a guest teacher. Her teaching resume includes, Boston Ballet, Festival Ballet Providence and Neglia Conservatory of Ballet. In addition, Ms. Putrius choreographed several contemporary works for YAGP, Festival Ballet’s “Up Close on Hope” series, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Workshop and the Neglia Ballet.  

In 2020 Ms. Putrius and Mr. Bauzys founded Ocean State Ballet.
